Toilet Repairs and Installations

A toilet that leaks, blocks or refuses to flush properly is more than an inconvenience. It can disrupt your home, create hygiene risks and even damage your property if left unchecked. For homeowners and businesses across The Mornington Peninsula, Frankston to Mordialloc and The Bass Coast to Phillip Island, reliable toilet repairs and installations are essential.

At SGT Plumbing, we provide expert solutions for all toilet problems, from quick repairs to complete replacements. We understand the unique plumbing challenges of Bayside homes and bring the right skills and equipment to get your toilet back in working order.

Common Toilet Issues

Blocked Toilets

One of the most common calls we receive is for blocked toilets. Whether caused by excess toilet paper, wipes or foreign objects, a blocked toilet needs attention straight away. Our plumbers use the correct tools to clear the obstruction quickly and safely, restoring full function without damaging the pipework.

Leaking Toilets

A leaking toilet wastes water and can cause long term damage to flooring and walls. Leaks often occur around the base, inside the cistern or from worn seals. We locate the source of the leak, replace faulty parts and ensure the toilet is sealed and watertight again.

Running Toilets

A toilet that constantly runs is more than just annoying. It can waste hundreds of litres of water a day, driving up your bills. The issue usually comes from worn valves or seals inside the cistern. We replace components with durable parts that keep your toilet working efficiently.

Toilets Not Flushing Properly

Weak or incomplete flushes are usually caused by build-up in the rim holes, issues with the flushing mechanism or problems with water pressure. We inspect the system, clean or replace parts where needed and make sure every flush is reliable.

Overflowing Toilets

An overflowing toilet is a serious problem that can cause water damage and pose a hygiene risk. We respond quickly to identify whether it is a simple blockage or a more serious plumbing issue and provide a lasting fix.

Toilet Installation and Upgrades

Toilet Installation and Upgrades

Sometimes repair is not the most practical option. If your toilet is cracked, outdated or constantly giving you trouble, replacing it may be the smarter choice. We supply and install a wide range of toilet styles to suit Bayside homes, including:

  • Close coupled toilets

  • Wall hung toilets

  • Back to wall toilets

  • Dual flush and water efficient models
  • Universal P & S Trap Models for quick conversion

Our team ensures proper installation, alignment and compliance with plumbing standards. We also remove your old unit, leaving the bathroom clean and ready to use.

Toilets in Bayside Homes (Frankston to Mordialloc)

The Bayside stretch from Frankston through to Mordialloc features a diverse mix of housing — from older brick homes and 70s–80s builds to modern townhouses.

  • Frankston & Seaford homes often come with ageing pipework, where toilet replacements can involve essential pipe repairs or upgrades.
  • Carrum, Bonbeach & Chelsea properties near the foreshore may face shifting sands and soil movement, leading to misaligned pipes or recurring blockages.
  • Edithvale, Aspendale, Parkdale & Mordialloc families often upgrade to modern dual flush toilets for water efficiency and reliability in busy households.

Toilets in Mornington Peninsula Homes

The Mornington Peninsula offers a wide range of properties, from coastal beach houses and holiday rentals to large family estates — each bringing unique plumbing challenges.

  • Mount Martha & Mornington homes often feature multiple bathrooms, making efficient toilet installations a must to keep running costs low.
  • Rye & Rosebud beachside properties can suffer from corrosion and salt-air impacts on fittings, leading to more frequent repairs or replacements.
  • Sorrento & Portsea luxury residences often request premium toilet installations to suit high-end bathroom designs.
  • Hastings & Somerville weatherboard homes may need pipework repairs or full replacements when new toilets are installed due to ageing infrastructure.

Toilets in Western Port Bay & Bass Coast Homes (Tooradin to Kilcunda)

Properties along Western Port Bay and the Bass Coast range from coastal shacks and farmland homes to modern family builds, each with their own plumbing considerations.

  • Cowes, Newhaven & San Remo properties often see high rental and holiday turnover, making fast, reliable toilet repairs essential.
  • Hastings, Crib Point & Somerville homes with older infrastructure frequently require pipe upgrades during toilet installations.
  • Balnarring, Somers & Shoreham coastal homes are prone to soil movement and salty air, which can speed up wear on fittings and underground pipes.
  • Kilcunda & surrounds often benefit from dual flush toilet upgrades, helping households save water and stay compliant with modern efficiency standards.

At SGT Plumbing, we understand that every home comes with its own plumbing quirks. From older homes with ageing pipework to coastal properties exposed to salt air, toilet installations and repairs can vary across our service regions. That’s why we take the time to assess each property and provide reliable solutions tailored to your home.

Preventing Toilet Problems

Many toilet issues can be avoided with good habits and simple maintenance:

  • Only flush human waste and toilet paper. Wipes, nappies and sanitary products cause blockages.

  • Listen for unusual sounds like constant running water and arrange repairs quickly.

  • Check the base of the toilet periodically for signs of leaks.

  • Consider upgrading older toilets to modern, water efficient models to reduce both problems and costs.

We also recommend occasional plumbing inspections for older Bayside homes, especially if they still have original fixtures or outdated pipework.

Start by checking:

  1.  Cistern water level
Lift the lid — if the tank hasn’t refilled, your inlet valve or float may be stuck or faulty.
  2.  Flush button or mechanism
Sometimes the flush button gets disconnected or worn. If the button feels loose or doesn’t bounce back, the mechanism might need replacing.
  3.  Blocked toilet bowl
If water rises when you flush (or doesn’t drain), you may have a partial or full blockage.
If a quick DIY fix doesn’t work (see below), it’s best to call in a professional to avoid overflow or further damage.

A constantly running toilet usually means the inlet valve isn’t shutting off or the rubber seal (flapper) is worn. This can waste hundreds of litres of water a day  and seriously impact your water bill.
We can quickly identify the issue and replace worn components on the spot with high-quality parts.

Yes! Here are a few things you can try:
 Use a plunger
If the toilet is blocked but still draining slowly, use a flange plunger (designed for toilets) with firm plunges. Make sure there’s enough water in the bowl to cover the plunger head.

Wiggle the inlet valve
Remove the cistern lid and gently lift or move the float or fill valve arm to see if the water shuts off. If so, it might just be stuck or need adjusting.

Check the button mechanism
If your dual-flush button isn’t clicking properly, lift off the lid and inspect the internal connection — some pop-in rods can come loose over time.

Avoid using chemical toilet unblockers — they’re not safe for toilets and can damage seals or pipework.

We carry specialised toilet augers, high-pressure water jetters, and CCTV drain cameras to locate and remove stubborn blockages caused by:
Excess paper or wipes
Sanitary products or foreign objects
Tree roots (especially in older sewer lines)
Collapsed or misaligned pipes
We don’t just poke a hole  we fully clear and inspect the line so it doesn’t happen again.

No  even if it says “flushable,” wipes don’t break down like toilet paper and often cause blockages. The only things that should go down your toilet are the 3Ps: Pee, Poo, and (toilet) Paper.
We’ve seen the damage wet wipes, pads, and cotton buds can do  avoid the mess and cost by using a bin instead.

Persistent toilet odours can be a sign of:

  • A dry floor waste trap (especially in little-used bathrooms)
  • A damaged wax seal at the base
  • Sewer gas leaking due to venting issues or cracked seals
  • Blocked or slow-draining vents
If cleaning doesn’t fix the issue, give us a call — we’ll identify the cause and sort it out for good.

Absolutely. We handle toilet plumbing across:

  • Family homes and investment properties
  • Real estates and body corporates
  • Cafés, aged care, caravan parks, and commercial sites

Whether it’s one faulty flush or a multi-stall commercial upgrade, we’ve got it covered.
